Arthur and Helen Davis-Hill lived in Sedley, Southampton County, Virginia. Like the majority of the county residents, their life were centered around rural family farming. During this period, farming is best discribe as HARD TIMES, very little money was made from farming. Many farmers were cheated of the value of the crops. Although, farming was the main source of income for Arthur and Helen, they were able to sustain their livelihood by growing home gardens and raising livestocks. Living conditions on the farm was without modern technology, kerosene lamps, no air conditioning or central heat and no indoor pluming. Life on the farm was a monumental undertaking, up before sunrise, in the fields all day until sunset, is just a typical day for the Hill Family. It's never easy, every family member pitched in to help with the dailey chores - plowing, harrowing, sowing, cultivating, mowing, harvesting, just to name a few. In other to support her family, Mrs. Helen (known by her school bus students) drove the county school bus for years earn money for her family. By GOD's WILL, Mrs. Helen balanced her life between taking care of her family, driving the school bus and farm work. Arthur's father and mother, Joseph Robert and Sally Mae Hill and brother James Robert Hill were also family farmers.
